The West Central School Board has agreed to push back the cutoff date for kindergarten enrollment. Children may now enroll in kindergarten if they turn five before September 1, according to the draft meeting minutes. Superintendent Dan Zylstra says that was pushed back from August 1, based on a provision in state law.

It was one of a few policy updates approved during this month’s meeting, according to Zylstra. “We updated our criminal history policy,” he adds. “Now, as per state law, all volunteer coaches are required to get an expanded criminal background history check, so we just updated our policy to reflect that.” Similarly, the school board also updated the transfer student, homeless student, and Teacher Appreciation Grant policies, to bring them in line with changes to state law.
